Microsoft has been keeping up with revisions of its SQL Server for the Windows platform. Under many circumstances, running a Microsoft SQL server can be expensive, but they have released this "Express" version, similar to the former "Compact" version which have both been released by MS as freeware.
This release contains many new features for the IT professionals among us and also includes performance and uptime enhancements compared to 2011, 2010 and 2008 versions.
This release is available both as a 32-bit and 64-bit release.

SQL Server Express is provided under a freeware license on Windows from database software with no restrictions on usage. Download and installation of this PC software is free and 2012 is the latest version last time we checked.
